Santiago ( vocals/guitars), Martin (guitars), Bruno (bass), Guillermo (drums) The band at that time was named MARTYR and only one month after, their first cassette entitled "Fear To Be Born" was released. Recorded in a four tracks porta-studio and totally oriented to Death Metal, that first appearance in the musical scene, in spite of its poor sound, helped them to be known as a band and brought them their first radio, zines and bands contacts. In fact, the band started to play not only in their city (Buenos Aires) but also in other cities of Argentina. This made the band grow up both musically and mentally and just one year later they decided to record another cassette, but this time they wanted to do something different. The band took themselves more seriously and they enter edto a 16 tracks studio to give shape to their first professional-sound recording, "Humanize". This demo showed the great changes the band experienced and music became a great melange of Hardcore, Death, Punk and Industrial stuff. It was distributed only by mail and just to zines, radios,etc. Being reviewed in more than 50 'zines in all the world, "Humanize" received very good reviews and this meant the possibility to be heard in many countries by many people. Offerings to distribute the material arose, and the band decided to wait, they wanted to release something better.
In 1998, after more than one year of frustrations and delays all the band's efforts are giving its fruits as they entered in negotiations with REPULSE RECORDS who's finally giving them the chance not only of releasing this album, but spreading the band's name all over the world as one of the very best and most promising bands on this genre. In February 1999 the band did their first European tour (2nd. Repulsive Tour), with Crucible (USA) Jesus Martyr played in 9 countries and when the band returned to Argentina did another tour in Brazil. Jesus Martyr has been featured in many compilations worldwide. This tour was a success. An official video tape of the tour will see the light very soon through Repulse. At the moment Jesus Martyr are focusing their forces in write their second album and doing a lot of gigs in their country. Martyr starts as a band in 1994 with the following line-up:
So,
when 1996 was dying, totally concerned with their music and lyrics, MARTYR
was ready to record a full-lenght CD. They chose producer Matías
Kritz to work with in the recording sessions of "Sudamerican Porno". According
to their constant changes, keyboardist Hugo Macchia joins the band and
music changes radically. This album consists on 13 songs recorded in three
different periods of time due to money problems (the last one was on August´97).
The result is a CD that mixes very heavy, brutal, melodic and intense
music with lyrics inspired in philosophy (Nietzsche, The Greek thinkers,
etc.) and religion. In 1997 MARTYR becomes JESUS MARTYR in order to start
again as a band, with new projects and new ideas.
